Whether you are making your puzzle for your own skill building and enjoyment, or making it to give to someone you love, this is a timeless craft that will quickly become a new favorite. Originating in the 1700s, these paper puzzles were often used to send personal messages for Valentine’s Day. Each folded section of the purse would contain a message, revealed as the recipient carefully unfolded the intricate design.

The artistry of the puzzle purse can be traced back to the Japanese paper folding technique of tatogami (782-1185 CE), a precursor to origami. By the 1700s, the puzzle purse had made its way to England and the Americas, where it became a popular means of exchanging romantic messages.

Each student will be given a Viviva watercolor palette to use during class and to take home for future use. Viviva Watercolor Pans are beautifully handcrafted with a natural cork base, completely biodegradable, lightweight, and travel-friendly.
