Discover the art of braiding natural-dyed leather cord to create an artisanal necklace. No matter your skill level, this workshop provides a fun, hands-on introduction to braiding jewelry. Create a one-of-a-kind braided necklace while learning techniques you can use in future projects.
$55/student all supplies included
You’ll learn to create your own 4-strand round braid step by step. By the end of class, you’ll have a beautiful necklace to wear home, plus a kumihimo disk so you can make more braids on your own. Whether you’re just starting out or building your jewelry skills, this class will add a versatile technique to your repertoire.
Kumihimo is a traditional Japanese braiding technique used to create strong, decorative cords by interlacing strands of fiber in specific patterns. Historically, these braids were used for functional purposes like securing samurai armor and kimono sashes, but today they’re also popular in jewelry making and fiber arts.
Each student will be given the materials to make each piece of jewelry along with printed instructions. The class kit is made of finely-crafted leather and high-quality findings. Students will receive a round braiding disk to take home. All other necessary tools will be provided for use while in class.
