Cyanotypes: Traditional and Experimental Sun Printing

$50.00

Join us for an afternoon experimenting with cyanotypes, the camera-less photographic process. Learn the method, chemistry, history, and art of this sun printing medium. Bonnie will lead you through coating your own paper, practicing different printing techniques, and experimenting with different stains.

Every student will take home 2 precoated pieces of cloth, five cyanotypes exposed during the workshop, and all materials coated to practice with at home.

Other information:

While stencils and other printing supplies will be provided, students are welcome to bring their own printing subjects - we recommend objects with distinct or interesting silhouettes.

Make sure to wear sun protection, we’ll be spending a lot of time outside! Note that while the chemicals we are working with are not dangerous, they are mildly toxic and can be irritating to skin and sensitive respiratory systems. These chemicals are safe for individuals who are pregnant to be around under proper safety precautions. For reference, they are about as harsh as most household cleaning chemicals. Gloves and aprons will be provided.

$50 Per Student
